PET-G

(Also known as Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-Modified)

purell01PETG is often considered an in between material to Acrylic and Polycarbonate because it has a higher impact resistance than Acrylic and has a lower price point than Polycarbonate. Although its impact strength is not as close to Polycarbonate as many think, it is often tough enough to meet the needs of many impact resistance applications. With this in mind, many people adjust application requirements because PETG is also much easier to fabricate than Polycarbonate offering deep draws (with no drying), with high part definition and complex die cutting operations.

PETG can also be mechanically fastened rivets or bonded with adhesives and ultrasonic welding. PETG can also be easily decorated using various painting and silk screening operations which make it well suited for point of purchase applications.

Characteristics:

  • Impact strength greater than acrylic and approaches polycarbonate.
  • 86% light transparency compared to 87% for polycarbonate and 92% for acrylic.
  • Cost effective
  • Ease of fabrication
  • Die cuts/punches easily
  • Low forming temperature
  • Can be thermoformed without pre-drying
  • Printable
  • Can be sterilized
  • FDA compliant
  • Chemical resistant
  • Self-extinguishing

Common Uses:

  • Signing
  • Glazing
  • POP Displays
  • Visors
  • Medical Packaging
